Currently, we are looking for a Senior Supervisor, ASL Safety Compliance to join the ArcBest team. The Senior Supervisor, ASL Safety Compliance provides overall leadership and strategic oversight of Asset-Light services independent contractors, owner operators, and fleet owners safety compliance and on-road performance ensuring all FMCSA regulations and Company policies and processes are met or exceeded. This position includes the development, implementation, training, periodic updating, auditing, and management of a comprehensive safety management program and systems to ensure compliance with government legislation, federal regulations, and corporate policy. The Senior Supervisor, ASL Safety Compliance uses leadership skills and experience to develop collaborative working relationships with all departments, business partners, and contractors to identify, evaluate, and mitigate operational risk to ensure company, independent contractor, owner operator, and fleet owner compliance with all federal, state, local laws, and regulations regarding motor carrier safety.
Your contribution may include:
- Oversee the company’s Safety and Risk Management Program (and regulatory compliance) designed to enhance and energize acceptance of individual and team responsibility for safety at all levels.
- Maintain a satisfactory safety fitness rating and continuously improve safe performance by understanding and managing Safety Measurement System (SMS) performance data, Compliance Safety Accountability (CSA) and Behavior Analysis & Safety Improvement Categories (BASICs) results, and Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS) data.
- Oversee, manage, and improve CSA/SMS BASIC scores.
- Provide visibility to key behavioral indicators, safety compliance, and on-road performance results, trends, and corrective action.
- Accountable for thorough investigations of all regulatory citations, violations, and fines to determine root cause and associated corrective actions.
- Perform safety compliance assessments to ensure company compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, safety requirements, and rules.
- Provide reporting and analysis of roadside inspections and violations posted to the FMCSA portal and submit DataQ requests for review as appropriate.
- Perform safety compliance reviews of independent contractor roadside inspection violations to ensure compliance with company qualification standards, safety policies and procedures, all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, safety requirements, and rules.
- Ensure compliance with all company and customer policies, procedures, and applicable federal, state, local laws, and regulations regarding motor carrier safety.
- Lead development of comprehensive safety policies and safe operating procedures.
- Ensure compliance with FMCSA carrier registration, licensing, insurance, and reporting requirements.
- Monitor Asset-Light services independent contractor, owner operator, and fleet owner safety compliance and on-road performance continuously to ensure compliance with company qualification standards, safety policies and procedures, all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, safety requirements, and rules.
- Collaborate with cross-functional and departmental teams to assist with analysis and development of risk mitigation strategies and prevention improvement plans.
- Develop and enhance safety systems to monitor company compliance and implement programs to heighten awareness, reduce violations and incidents.
- Provide leadership, expertise, guidance, and support regarding the development and implementation of operational safety policies, procedures, standards, and requirements to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, safety requirements, and rules.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of all laws, regulations, standards, and industry practices impacting supported lines of business.
- Lead federal and state agency compliance reviews and provide responses to requests for information with a goal of minimizing company exposure to further review.
- Collaborate with service providers to identify, develop, and implement risk mitigation strategies and corrective action plans to improve on-road performance.
- Provide continual review and improvement of safety compliance processes, procedures, and systems.
- Represent company with government, law enforcement, and industry agencies to promote company’s responsible public safety image.
- Partner with company legal and outside counsel regarding discovery responses to interrogatory questions, requests for production of documents, legal defenses, and strategies.
- Provide support in dispute resolution and interpretation of federal regulations and company policies.
- Mitigate exposure to legal challenges by understanding current and proposed legislation, enforcing regulations, and recommending new procedures.
- Provide departmental reporting, analytics, and strategic planning.
- Engagement, development, and performance of direct and indirect reports.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
As a Senior Supervisor, ASL Safety Compliance, you will be a member of the ArcBest Expedite Claims and Risk team in Medina, OH. Work hours vary based on scheduling. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, with irregular hours that may occur depending on workload.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in safety, transportation, logistics, or equivalent. Safety related degree and/or certification, preferred.
Experience: Minimum, five years’ experience with a concentration in transportation safety and compliance. Experience networking and partnering with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and other governmental agencies. Experience in the development of safety compliance policies, procedures, programs, and systems.
Computer Skills: Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.
